There’s no doubt CT Consultants’ staff are passionate about their profession and Taj Bakare is no exception. As a Principal of the firm and Chief Bridge Engineer, Taj has had a very successful career and is often called upon to participate on technical committees such as his role as Co-Chair the 2016/2017 Ohio Transportation Engineering Conference (OTEC) Structures Subcommittee.

Those that know Taj, also know he is deeply interested in promoting the profession among the African American community. He has been involved with the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) for many years and has been recognized nationally for his personal accomplishments and his contributions to the organization including being named the 2014 Technologist of the Year.

Taj also serves as the Director of NSBE’s Transportation Special Interest Group (SIG).  NSBE’s Transportation SIG provides professionals a valuable opportunity to share and address the latest policy and technical information as well as cover new ideas in transportation policy, planning, environmental, design, construction, infrastructure sustainability, maintenance, operation, and management of transportation resources.

As Director, Taj oversees and organizes various programs including technical workshops for professional development conferences and the NSBE National Conference, participation in industry forums, technical responses to issues affecting our communities, and keeps NSBE members up-to-date on industry-specific and policy trends. The specific Transportation SIG goals are to:

  • Increase the number of nation’s Black Transportation Engineers
  • Improve America’s roads, bridges, transit systems, railways, and aviation systems
  • Support sustainable infrastructure projects critical for long-term growth
  • Enhance public safety
  • Spur job creation
  • Innovate to improve the way federal dollars are spent
