Florence Government Center is a 44-acre campus designed around the concept of “one stop shopping” for governmental needs.
The main building is a 59,200 SF facility housing city offices, public utility tenants and the 911 center. A subdividable multipurpose room with stage can accommodate a variety of activities. Designed for horizontal and vertical expansion, the earthquake resistant structure is acoustically soundproofed.
One of the design objectives was to establish the Government Center as the new heart of the City, giving Florence a new identity in the area. Staying within a tight budget, a form was created that expresses the civic character of government, yet has a contemporary aspect in keeping with the progressive nature of the City.
At the front colonnade, a center pedestrian mall, including a large reflecting pool with fountains and a perimeter wall/bench, invites guests and visitors to the center of the campus to sit and relax or to contemplate at the veterans’ memorial. The Government Center facility itself is the standard-bearer for the campus, which is master planned for future governmental and service-oriented facilities, and other community amenities, such as recreation, that will help accomplish the mission of drawing people to the Center.
