The expansion of the Sharonville Convention Center has received LEED® Silver certification from the USGBC and was an Honoree in the 2014 Cincinnati Business Courier Green Business Awards!
To accommodate larger groups, an additional 20,000 SF of exhibit space, 8,000 SF of break-out meeting room space, and a 14,000 SF ballroom have been added to the former Convention Center. A new entrance and entrance gallery were designed to facilitate “people moving,” and a gateway skybridge spanning Chester Road provides easy, safe access to the Sheraton Hotel.
A two-story addition to the front of the building houses retail space on the ground floor, with meeting space above. The new expansion’s metal panels and mullionless glazing provide a taut, unadorned skin for the building, which also serves as a backdrop for the Convention Center Plaza. Uplit “urban masts” positioned directly in front of this backdrop serve as beacons for the distant observer and highway traveler.
The redeveloped plaza provides two types of experiences: a combination parking/lower plaza is more open in order to accommodate larger outdoor events while a more densely vegetated upper plaza provides shaded outdoor seating and gathering spaces. A radiating pattern emanating from the Convention Center’s entry rotunda ultimately meets the distinct undulating ribbon line motif flowing outward into the proposed Sharonville Northern Lights District beyond, serving as a reminder that the Convention Center is at the District’s core!
The Sharonville Convention Center Expansion and Plaza Development project anchors the redevelopment efforts of the district and provides the nexus from which design inspiration can be drawn for both public and private development.
