Middle Tennessee Electric Membership Cooperative (MTEMC) operates six additional branch locations in four counties in the Nashville, TN area.
MTEMC has experienced rapid growth in recent years and hired CT Consultants, Inc. to provide an extensive programming and conceptual design study for its new Headquarters and Operations Facilities. MTEMC is second largest cooperative in the U.S. in the volume of electricity it distributes and sixth largest in terms of members. It is the largest electric cooperative in Tennessee serving over 200,000 residences and businesses.
CT and this same team programmed nearly 500,000 sq ft of space designed to be constructed on a 150-acre, urban site, owned by MTEMC. In addition to providing conceptual design for the 32,500 sf Systems Operations Control Center (SOCC), the study showed the need for several other facilities including a five-story office tower, field services, fleet maintenance warehouse and truck bays, operations equipment and supplies and a training facility. Construction was scheduled to begin in 2016 and was constructed in four phases over the next five to ten years until the work is completed.
For the main facility, the team provided landscape architecture as well, including plaza design, landscape design of the grounds within the project area, and way finding concepts. The plaza design incorporated features such as flag-poles, seating, shade and ADA accessibility.
